Canthidium (Neocanthidium) decoratum (Perty, 1830) View in CoL

Copris decorata Perty, 1830: 42 View in CoL , plate 9, fig. 4 [transferred to Canthidium View in CoL by Harold 1867a: 17; here transferred to the subgenus Neocanthidium View in CoL ]. Type locality: Brazil, Minas Gerais mountains (“Habitat in montibus Prov. Minarum”). Type specimens: According to Scherer (1983), one unsexed syntype (ZSMC). Distribution: Brazil: Minas Gerais (Perty 1830) [for some unknown reason, Martínez & Halffter (1986a) stated that C. decoratum View in CoL was restrict not to the state of Minas Gerais, as cited by Perty (1830), but rather to the very distant state of Maranhão, in northeastern Brazil. Since no evidence was given by Martínez & Halffter (1986a) to support their change, here I decided to follow Perty’s original report].

Canthon scapularis Laporte, 1840: 69 [synonymized by Harold 1867a: 17]. Type locality: Brazil (“ Brésil ”). Type material: Location of syntypes unknown. Possibly destroyed [see the Maldaner et al. (2017) discussion on the type material of Laporte’s species].
