Type material. CHINA, Yunnan Province: Holotype male from Gongshan County, Dulongjiang Township, Kongdang Village , 27.91°N, 98.34°E, 1560 m, 5 November 2004, D. H. Kavanaugh leg. Etymology. The specific name is a patronym in honour of the collector, Mr D. H. Kavanaugh; noun in genitive case.

Diagnosis. The male of P. kavanaughi Zhang, Jäger & Liu , spec. nov. is similar to that of P. acris Zhang, Jäger & Liu , spec. nov. by E broadened and plate-like, but can be distinguished by RTA arising from medially to terminally from Ti, RTA shorter, i.e. wide part of RTA reaching only to distal part of tibia (arising from basally to medially from Ti, reaching proximal part of cymbium in P. acris spec. nov.)

MALE (CAS0018): Measurements: Medium sized. Body length 10.2–10.7, DS length 5.1, width 4.6, OS length 5.6, width 3.1. Eyes: AME 0.20, ALE 0.31, PME 0.25, PLE 0.27,AME–AME 0.19,AME–ALE 0.12, PME– PME 0.25, PME–PLE 0.43, AME–PME 0.36, ALE–PLE 0.31, CH AME 0.45, CH ALE 0.38. Spination: Pp 131, 101, 2111; Fe I–II 323, III 322, IV 331; Pa I–III 101, IV 000; Ti I–II 2226, III–IV 2126; Mt I–II 2024, III 3025, IV 3036. Measurements of palps and legs: Pp 6.1 (1.7, 0.9, 1.2, –, 2.3); I 19.9 (5.8, 2.1, 5.5, 5.0, 1.5); II 23.9 (6.4, 2.4, 7.1, 5.9, 2.1); III 17.7 (5.4, 1.9, 4.7, 4.4, 1.3);

IV 20.6 (6.1, 1.6, 5.3, 5.7, 1.9). Leg formula: II-IV-I-III. Cheliceral furrow with ca. 25 denticles.

Palp ( Figs 135A–C View FIGURE 135 ): As in diagnosis. C arising from T at 11:30 o’clock position. E arising from T at 9:00 o’clock position, basally wrinkled. Spermophor visible submarginally on retrolateral T in ventral view and on prolateral side as ventrally bulging in prolateral view. RTA finger-like.

Colouration ( Figs 136A–B View FIGURE 136 ): DS reddish brown with two lateral bands, margin with dashed band. Fovea and striae distinctly marked with dark lines. OS dorsally yellowish with reddish-brown dots, with transversal brown line in posterior part, ventrally reddish-brown with irregular pattern.
