Type material. CHINA, Yunnan Province: Holotype female from Gongshan Country, Dulongjiang Township, Dizheng Longyuan Village [28.00°N, 98.33°E], 1690 m, 2 November 2004, D. H. Kavanaugh leg. ( CAS, HNU0006 View Materials ). GoogleMaps

Etymology. The specific name is dedicated to Mr Xiaowei Cao for his kind help on our Sparassidae collection; name in genitive case.

Diagnosis. The female of P. caoi Zhang, Jäger & Liu , spec. nov. is similar to that of P. abnormis Jäger, 2001 (Jäger 2001) by: 1) Anterior margins of LL almost U-shaped, almost parallel to posterior margins; 2) LL

narrower in longitudinal axis, but can be distinguished by: 1) Median part of anterior margins of LL almost straight; 2) IDS all covered by LL in dorsal view (median part curved, most part covered by LL in P. abnormis ).

FEMALE (HNU0006): Measurements: Small sized. Body length 8.2–8.9, DS length 3.8, width 3.2, OS length 4.9, width 3.1. Eyes: AME 0.17, ALE 0.26, PME 0.19, PLE 0.22, AME–AME 0.15, AME–ALE 0.10, PME–PME 0.18, PME–PLE 0.33, AME–PME 0.25, ALE–PLE 0.22, CH AME 0.36, CH ALE 0.29. Spination: Pp 131, 101, 2121, 1014; Fe I–II 323, III 322, IV 331; Pa I–III 101, IV 000; Ti I–II 2228, III–IV 2126; Mt I–II 3034, III–IV 3036. Measurements of palps and legs: Pp 5.0 (1.4, 0.7, 1.0, –, 1.9); I 12.3 (3.6, 1.3, 3.3, 3.1, 1.0); II 14.4 (3.8, 1.6, 4.5, 3.3, 1.2); III 10.0 (3.1, 1.2, 2.6, 2.2, 0.9); IV 11.5 (3.7, 0.8,

2.8, 3.1, 1.1). Leg formula: II-I-IV-III. Cheliceral furrow with ca. 23 denticles.

Epigyne ( Figs 41A–C View FIGURE 41 ): As in diagnosis. EF wider than long, without obvious AB, anterior margin bifid. Anterior and posterior margins of LL laterally subparallel to each other. IDS transversally S-shaped, sclerotised S elongated longitudinally, well visible in dorsal view.

Colouration ( Figs 42A–B View FIGURE 42 ): DS brown, lateral bands distinct, reddish brown, with longitudinal Y-shaped marking at fovea and narrow dark marginal bands. Striae distinctly marked with dark lines. OS dorsally dark brown, with a big triangular reddish-brown pattern, posterior half with a transverse line. OS ventrally with several reddishbrown marks.

MALE: Unknown.
