Karaops jaburrara View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 21–22 View FIGURES 15 - 22 , 37 View FIGURE 37 )

Type material. Holotype: male, 13.5 km W of Wickham, SITE DRC 11 [20˚41’18.83” S 117˚0’24.9” E, Western Australia, Australia], 6 July 2003 – 3 October 2004, CALM PILBARA SURVEY, ethylene glycol pitfalls (WAM T79397).

Etymology. The specific epithet refers to the indigenous Jaburrara people that once inhabited the area of the type locality. This name is to be treated as a noun in apposition.

Diagnosis. Males of K. jaburrara sp. nov. can be distinguished from all other species by the distal margin of the dorsal apophysis of the RTA, which is toothed ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 15 - 22 ). Females are unknown.

Description. Male (holotype):

Colour. Dorsal shield of prosoma uniformly yellow-brown; sternum pale yellow; chelicerae yellow-brown with dark infuscations anteriorly; maxillae pale yellow; labium pale brown, lightening distally; opisthosoma dorsally yellow-brown, 4/5 pale yellow, posterior 1/5 darker brown with w-shaped horizontal markings, darker flecks laterally; ventrally pale yellow; legs yellow-brown, faint annulations present, faded.

Prosoma. 0.91 times longer than broad; clypeus 0.14 high.

Eyes. AER nearly straight; PER recurved; PME larger than AME, PLE largest, ALE smallest; eye group width 1.14; eye diameters, AME 0.20, ALE 0.11, PME 0.23, PLE 0.36; interdistances AME-ALE 0.25, PME-PLE 0.28, ALE-PLE 0.18, AME-PME 0.04; ocular quadrangle AME-AME 0.16, PME-PME 0.46.

Sternum. 0.88 times longer than broad.

Chelicerae. Promargin with 3 teeth, retromargin with 2 teeth.

Pedipalp ( Figs 21-22 View FIGURES 15 - 22 ). Fm spination d 0–0–2; RTA with 2 apophyses, dorsal apophysis longer than ventral, wide in ventral view, thick laterally, pointed at tip, toothed distally, ventral apophysis 1/3 the size of dorsal apophysis, ovate; cymbium oval to triangular; conductor large, directed retrolaterally, truncate, pointed posteriorly; embolus arising from large ovoid tegular lobe, tapering abruptly, sickle-shaped, not reaching perimeter of cymbium, beginning at 7 o'clock, ending at 2 o'clock; MA large, directed distally, with single pointed process, tapering abruptly, hooked, directed anterolaterally.

Opisthosoma. Without caudal setal tufts.

Legs. Leg I only slightly shorter than legs II, III and IV; leg formula 3421; leg III longest; tarsal claws without teeth; spination: leg I, Fm pr 1-1-1, d 1-1-1, rl 0-1-1; Ti d 0, v 2-2 -2-2-2; Mt v 2-2 -2-2; leg II, Fm pr 1-1-1, d 1-1-1, rl 0-1-1; Ti v 2-2 -2-2-2; Mt v 2-2 -2-2; leg III, Fm pr 0-1-1, d 1-1-1, rl 1-1-1; Ti R 2-2-2; L 2-2; Mt R 2-2-2; L 2-2; leg IV, Fm pr 1-1-1, d 1-1-1, rl 0-1-1; Ti v 2-2; Mt v 2-2.

Measurements. Total length 5.65. Dorsal shield of prosoma length 2.86, width 3.14. Sternum length 1.43, width 1.63. Opisthosoma length 2.79, width 2.64. Pedipalp: Fm 0.88, Pt 0.46, Ti 0.48, Ta 0.89, (total) 2.71. Leg I: Fm 3.54, Pt 1.13, Ti 3.14, Mt 2.96, Ta 1.41, (total) 12.18. Leg II: Fm 4.39, Pt 1.34, Ti 3.56, Mt 3.57, Ta 1.48, (total) 14.34. Distribution. Known only from the type locality ( Fig. 37 View FIGURE 37 ).

Life history and habitat preferences. Unknown.

Remarks. Colours of preserved material may not correspond to live specimens because of collection in ethylene glycol. R leg III and L leg III with different spination patterns.
