Remarks. Santos-Silva & Nascimento (2018) recently published a work about the chaotic taxonomic status of the genera and subgenera Acanthoderes (Acanthoderes) ; A. ( Scythropopsis ); A. ( Symperasmus ); A. ( Pardalisia ); and Psapharochrus . The authors agreed with the definition provided by Lacordaire (1872) to separate Acanthoderes from Psapharochrus : “Apart from those controversial classifications, it was Lacordaire (1872) who provided the best feature to separate Psapharochrus … from Acanthoderes (Acanthoderes) …The former was included among the genera with eyes coarsely or sub-coarsely granulated, while the two latter were included among the genera with eyes finely granulated.”

Chemsak & Hovore (2002) described Acanthoderes penrosei based in a large type series from Panamá. About the ocular eyes lobes, the authors comment: “Eyes large, moderately coarsely faceted”. We have studied a considerable number of specimens from Colombia that agree with the description of A. penrosei and were able to confirm that the ocular lobes are coarsely facetted. Therefore, based on the definition by Lacordaire (1872), we are transferring A. penrosei to Psapharochrus . Additionally, we are registering the species for the first time for Colombia.

Geographical distribution: Panama.
