Eastern Pacific and worldwide distribution. Known only from the southern Gulf of California, between the Bay of La Paz and 23°45’N, 107°35’W ( Brusca & Hendrickx 2005). From 25°14’36”N to 16°58’00”N in western Mexico (this study). Cosmopolitan in warm water in the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Indian Oceans ( García-Madrigal 2007).

Remarks. Scina marginata appears to be much more abundant in the eastern tropical Pacific than previously thought, with several records in the southern Gulf of California, and off SW Mexico (present study) ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ). This species is relatively easy to distinguish by features such as the distal extension of propodus of both pereopod 1 and pereopod 2, the wide pereopod 7 segments, and the falcate claws of pereopods 5–7 dactylus. The specimens show conspicuous setae on the anterodistal portion of pereopod 7.
