Diagnosis. Antenna long, reaching second chaetiger. Secondary ciliary organs present. Three prebranchial segments. Branchiae numbering up to 25 pairs; those in posterior branchial region ending in a long filament. Modified notochaetae absent. Neuropodial capillaries not thicker than notopodial ones. Modified neurochaetae with terminal spine and tip of stem covered by a fine hood.
Distribution. Mediterranean ( Laubier 1967). Eastern Atlantic, from areas of North Sea adjacent to Norway ( Hartley 1981) to Portugal ( Gil & Sardà 1999). Barents Sea ( Strelzov 1973). Canadian Arctic ( Stewart et al. 1985; Conlan et al. 2008). Western Atlantic, from Newfoundland ( Kenchington et al. 2001) to Caribbean ( Díaz-Díaz et al. 2009). Eastern Pacific, from California ( Blake 1996) to Panama ( Aguado & López 2003) and Chilean Patagonia ( Montiel et al. 2002). Andaman Sea ( Lovell 2002).
