Williams et al. (2009) concluded that this species is identical to Aulacaspis rosae (Bouché) originally described by Bouché (1833) as Aspidiotus rosae Bouché. In order to enhance stability the name Coccus rosae Virey, 1821 , was regarded as a nomen oblitum and placed in synonymy with Aspidiotus rosae Bouché, 1833 , nomen protectum [= Aulacaspis rosae (Bouché) ] (Family Diaspididae ).
