- Hind tibial spur large, robust and forming four strong apical teeth, each extending nearly to the same level. This feature is unique in the Culicomorpha. There are a number of other ceratopogonids in which the spur is large and robust (e.g. Calcarhelea , Capehelea ) but these lack the strong, apical divisions that are characteristic of this monotypic genus.
- Apex of male epandrium with row of 9 setae, each on a lobe. This feature is unique in the family.
