Rhynchohelea View in CoL :

- The female labium is strongly modified, with the prementum and labella being very wide and with a number of setae. Wirth & Blanton (1970b) and Wirth & Grogan (1988) did not identify this specific structure and noted the “proboscis with apex broadly truncate and armed with several strong hooks and spines”. Borkent (1992) characterized this feature as “labium short, with most apical setae on cuticular extensions”. The feature is unique in the Culicomorpha and likely associated with an interesting and distinctive feeding habit.
