ZMB 7856 and ZMB 50108-50117 (formerly part of ZMB 7856), "Nossi Faly, bei Madagascar" [Nosy Faly, SW Ambaro Bay, Ambanja District, Diana Region, Madagascar], coll. François Paul Louis Pollen.

Heterixalus variabilis (Ahl, 1930a).

Remarks.

One of the 12 syntypes mentioned by Ahl (1930a: 527) could not be located. Pollen, a Dutch merchant and naturalist, undertook expeditions to Madagascar and its offshore islands in the Mozambique Channel, as well as trips to the Comoros, Mascarenes and Réunion. He collected various botanical and zoological objects between 1863 and 1866 ( Pollen 1867, 1868; Rosenberg 1886). His collections are held today by the BMNH, RMNH and ZMB.
