Remarks. Several studies have treated this genus and Hierodula as a single genus or subgenus (e.g., Kaltenbach 1982, Oliveira 2009) but they are easily distinguished by the presence of a tubercle between the base of the antennae and the eye in Sphodromantis and the absence of this tubercle in Hierodula ( Bragg, 1997) . The most recent study treated them as separate genera ( Roy 2010).
