Hypostena pubiseta Mesnil, 1953: 170 View in CoL . Holotype male (ZMUH, examined). Type locality: Myanmar (as “N.E. Burma”), Kambaiti , 2000 m.

Metopomintho pubiseta: Crosskey 1976: 190 (new combination, conspectus of Oriental tachinids).

Diagnosis. Head dichoptic; ocellar setae very fine, hair-like; 2 proclinate orbital setae in male; parafacial bare; arista with rather long plumosity; 3 presutural and 3 postsutural dorsocentral setae; 3 katepisternal setae; scutellum with 2 pairs of marginal setae, basal and lateral scutellar setae absent; costa bare above and haired below; mid tibia with 1 anterodorsal seta; hind tibia with 2 preapical dorsal setae; claws and pulvilli shorter than 5th tarsomere; median discal setae absent on syntergite 1+2 to 5th tergite.

Redescription. Male. Body length: 5.0– 6.8 mm.

Head with dense, grayish-white pruinosity, fronto-orbital plate darkened but not shiny; upper occiput slightly dark grayish; antenna brown-black; palpus reddish-yellow, weakly darkened on apical 1/3. Vertex about 0.29 of head width; frontal vitta slightly widened anteriorly, only slightly narrower than fronto-orbital plate at middle; parafacial slightly narrowed below, about as wide as postpedicel at mid height; gena about 0.42 of eye height; face rather strongly concave, lower portion slightly warped forward. Inner vertical setae strong, parallel to each other, more than 3/4 of eye height; outer vertical setae absent; ocellar setae very fine, hair-like; 1 fine outwardly-directed prevertical seta, slightly longer than ocellar setae; 2 proclinate orbital setae, anterior seta stronger and subequal in length to inner vertical seta; 5 frontal setae, lowest seta nearly level with base of pedicel; fronto-orbital plate with only a few fine, short, black hairs; parafacial bare; gena with several fine short black hairs; vibrissa level with lower margin of face; postocular setae not close to posterior eye margin; occiput with rather strong black hairs on upper portion. Antenna almost reaching lower margin of face; pedicel with a long seta about twice as long as pedicel; postpedicel about 4.9 times as long as pedicel; arista plumose, total width including plumosity about as wide as postpedicel. Palpus nearly cylindrical, slightly less than 2/3 length of postpedicel.

Thorax black; dorsum with rather thin, grayish pruinosity on presutural area, 4 longitudinal vittae on presutural area, broadly blackish on postsutural scutum; pleura with rather dense, grayish-white pruinosity. Hairs sparse and black; 2 postpronotal setae; 1 presutural and 2 postsutural acrostichal setae; 3 presutural and 3 postsutural dorsocentral setae; 2 postsutural intra-alar setae; 3 katepisternal setae; scutellum with 2 pairs of marginal setae, basal and lateral scutellar setae absent, apical setae crossed, suberect, about twice as long as scutellum, discal setae fine, at most as long as scutellum. Wing evenly and slightly tinged with pale brown; basicosta black; lower calypter translucent white, fringe rather long; costal spine absent; costa bare above and haired below; relative lengths of costal sectors 2, 3 and 4 approximately 4:10:5; vein R 4+5 with 2 fine setulae at base, both dorsally and ventrally; vein M 1 from dm-cu crossvein to bend about 2.7 times as long as distance between bend and wing margin; last section of vein CuA 1 about 1/2 as long as dm-cu crossvein. Legs black, coxae rather densely grayish-white pruinose; pulvilli pale brownish; fore tibia with 2 anterodorsal and 2 posterior setae; mid tibia with 1 anterodorsal, 2 posterodorsal and 1 ventral setae; hind tibia with 2 preapical dorsal setae; claws and pulvilli slightly shorter than 5th tarsomere.

Abdomen black, with rather dense, grayish-white pruinosity on anterior 2/5 of 3rd to 5th tergites, pruinosity with tessellate appearance. Hairs fine, rather long, dense and suberect, black; syntergite 1+2 with several lateral discal setae, a pair of median marginal setae and a single lateral marginal seta on each side; 3rd tergite with a pair of median marginal setae and a single lateral marginal seta on each side; 4th and 5th tergites each with a row of marginal setae; median discal setae absent on syntergite 1+2 to 5th tergite; 5th sternite with postero-interior corner of posterior lobe angulated, not pointed. Terminalia: Sixth tergite entire, without hairs; surstylus wide, parallel-sided and truncated at apex in lateral view, with many long hairs; cerci in dorsal view rather broad along basal portion, completely fused and with suture obliterated along basal 1/3, then evenly narrowed to a pointed apex, in lateral view strongly constricted at basal 1/3, curved ventrally along apical 2/3; pregonite flat; postgonite slightly extending beyond apex of epiphallus; dorsal sclerite of distiphallus flat, apical membranous portion short, about 1/5 as long as dorsal sclerite.

Female. Unknown.

Type material examined. Holotype ♂: [ Myanmar] N.E. Burma / Kambaiti , 2000 m / 4.vi.1934, Malaise ( ZMUH).

Additional material examined. Myanmar: 1 ♂, N. E . Burma [ Myanmar], Kambaiti , 7000 ft, 23.v.1934, R. Malaise ( NRS) .

Distribution. Myanmar.

Remarks. This species was treated as belonging to a different genus, Metopominto, mainly because of its bare parafacial ( Crosskey 1976). However, features of the male terminalia, such as the long and triangular bacilliform sclerite and the structure of the cerci, surstylus and hypandrial complex, indicate that it is clearly a member of Phyllomya .
