Discodoris erythraeensis Vayssière, 1912: 23–24 View in CoL , figs 150–152. – Gohar & Abul-Ela, 1959: 52–59, plate I, fig. 3, plate III, figs 1–3.

Discodoris sp. 1 Gosliner, 1987: 64 , fig. 75.

Type material: Holotype, by monotypy: [Gulf of Aden], Djibouti, Baie de Tadjourah, [6 February 1904], one specimen 35/ 25 mm preserved, [leg. mission Charles Gravier] ( MNHN, no catalogue number). Vayssière dissected the type. Other malacologists may have reexamined it too. The radula is missing and probably lost. No slide was found at the MNHN. The reproductive system is present but in poor condition. In particular, it had been separated from the body wall and its distal part (with the accessory glands) was damaged.

Additional material dissected: South Africa, eastern side of the Cape Peninsula, Venus Pool , 6 January 1980, one specimen approximately 17/ 10 mm preserved, identified as Discodoris sp. by T. M. Gosliner ( SAM A32370) [this specimen is the voucher of Discodoris sp. 1 Gosliner, 1987 ; it was dissected prior to the present study; the radula and the jaws were mounted on two permanent slides available with the specimen; however, the slides have dried and are not fully informative]; TANZANIA, off Dar-es-Salaam, Mbudya , 7 September 1977, two specimens 14/9 (#1) and 8/4 (#2) mm preserved, [leg. unknown], identified as Discodoris by T. M. Gosliner ( CASIZ 074477 ) ; Tanzania, Mtwara Region, Msimbati , 30 m depth, 1 November 1994, one specimen 14/ 9 mm, leg. T. M. Gosliner, identified as Discodoris by T. M. Gosliner ( CASIZ 099390 ) ; PHILIPPINES, Luzon, Batangas Province, Maricaban Island, Bethlehem , 8 May 2001, 10 m depth, one specimen 20/ 11 mm preserved, leg. T. M. Gosliner, identified as Discodoris by T. M. Gosliner ( CASIZ 157029 ) .

Questionable and immature additional material dissected: [SUEZ CANAL], lac Amer , [collecting date unknown], two specimens 17/11 (#1) and 10/8 (#2) mm preserved, leg. Gruvel, identified as D. erythraeensis by A. Pruvot-Fol ( MNHN, no catalogue number) [the largest specimen (#1) was entirely dissected prior to the present study; no internal organs remain in the jar except for some pieces of the reproductive system – the prostate, part of the female gland mass, and the spermatic pouches are missing; the small specimen (#2) was also dissected prior to the present study; its reproductive system, either naturally absent or extracted by a previous worker, could not be found; I refer to these specimens as MNHN-Amer in order to avoid confusion with the holotype, also held by the MNHN]; THAILAND, Gulf of Thailand, Ko-Sichang, Hin- Tasan , 17 August 1966, one specimen 14/ 7 mm preserved, leg. F. B. Steiner, identified as Discodoris by T. M. Gosliner ( CASIZ 081807 ) ; INDONESIA, Malay Archipelago, Lesser Sunda Islands, Adonara Island , south end of island, 28 November 1995, one specimen 15/ 7 mm preserved, leg. Pauline Fiene, identified as Discodoris by T. M. Gosliner ( CASIZ 109846 ) .
