( Fig. 15I)

Pentapedilum tusimaefeus Sasa et Suzuki, 1999: 6 View in CoL .

Material examined. JAPAN: Tsushima Island , holotype male, 23.iii.1998, sweep net, H. Suzuki ( NMST No. 353: 79, # 1–3–2) .

Diagnostic characters. The species can be distinguished from other species with numerous macrotrichia, uniformly colored abdomen, foretibial scale without spur, and base of superior volsella covered with microtrichia, by having a superior volsella with narrow base bearing 4–5 setae, and a projection that begins parallelsided and straight before it curves sharply at apical 1/3 where a long lateral seta arises, and by having a inferior volsella with 2 apical setae.

Male (n = 1)

Wing length 2.77 mm. Wing length / length of profemur 2.36. Thorax dark brown; abdomen brown; femur, tibia and tarsi pale brown.

Head. AR 1.83. Ultimate flagellomere 997 µm long. Temporal setae 9 including 5 inner verticals, 3 outer verticals, and 1 postorbital. Clypeus with 10 setae. Tentorium 172 µm long. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 47, 84, 184, 163, 253. Fifth palpomere / third palpomere 1.37. Third palpomere with 1 sensilla clavata.

Thorax. Acrostichals 16, dorsocentrals 17, prealars 6. Scutellum with 11 setae.

Wing. Anal lobe moderately developed. VR 1.18. Brachiolum with 4, Sc with 17, R with 60, R 1 with 59, R 4+5 with 75, M with 2, RM with 0 setae. Wing covered with numerous macrotrichia. Squama with 9 setae; 12–24 according to Sasa and Suzuki (1999).

Legs. Scale on foretibia 45 µm long, rounded, without apical spur. Spurs on midtibia 49 µm long, on hind tibia 86 µm long. Comb on midtibia 22 µm long, combs on hind tibia 34 µm and 30 µm long. Width at apex of foretibia 77 µm, of midtibia 81 µm, of hind tibia 86 µm. Length and proportions of legs as in Table 50.

Hypopygium. Tergite IX with 15 median setae, laterosternite IX with 4 setae. Anal point 68 µm long, 19 µm wide at base, gradually tapering to 5 µm wide apex. Transverse sternapodeme 30 µm long; phallapodeme 96 µm long. Gonocoxite 177 µm long. Superior volsella ( Fig. 15I) 70 µm long, base with few microtrichia and 5 inner setae, projection elbow-shaped, elongation with 1 lateral seta at bend. Inferior volsella 118 µm long, parallel-sided with 2 prominent apical setae. Gonostylus broad, 239 µm long. HR 0.73.
