( Figs 47B–D, F)

Polypedilum (Polypedilum) yakuabeum Sasa et Suzuki, 2000b: 57 .

Type material. Holotype male, JAPAN: Kagoshima Prefecture, Yakushima Island, Miyanoura , 24.iii.1999, light trap, H. Suzuki ( NMST Type No. 382.97).

Diagnostic characters. The species can be separated from the other species by having the superior volsella without setae. The gonostylus has few inner setae confined to the lower half.

Male (n = 1)

Wing length 1.67 mm. Thorax brown, darker at postnotum, scutum, and antepronotum; abdomen pale brown; femur, tibia and tarsi pale brown.

Head. AR 1.06. Ultimate flagellomere 461 µm long. Temporal setae 9 including 2 inner verticals, 4 outer verticals, and 3 postorbital. Clypeus with 11 setae. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 1st not measurable, 46, 115, 143, 234. Fifth palpomere / third palpomere 2.04.

Thorax. Acrostichals 13, dorsocentrals 13, prealars 5. Scutellum with 13 setae.

Wing. Anal lobe well developed. VR 1.29. All wing vein with setae except Sc, M, RM, PCu and An. Wing cell r 4+5 apically with few macrotrichia, m 1+2 with very few, m 3+4 with about 10 macrotrichia; other cells lack macrotrichia. Squama with 8 setae.

Legs. Scale on foretibia 34 µm long, rounded, without apical spur. Spurs on midtibia 34 µm long; on hind tibia 39 µm long. Combs on midtibia both 16 µm long; combs on hind tibia 18 and 23 µm long. Width at apex of foretibia 54 µm; of midtibia 58 µm; of hind tibia 66 µm. Pulvilli as in Figure 47C. Length and proportions of legs as in Table 63.

Hypopygium ( Fig. 47B). Tergite IX with 8 median setae, laterosternite IX with 2 setae. Anal point 50 µm long, 6 µm wide at base, nearly parallel-sided towards 5 µm wide apex. Transverse sternapodeme 59 µm long. Gonocoxite 174 µm long. Superior volsella ( Fig. 47F) 44 µm long, shaft 11 µm wide, length of T-shape 46 µm, without setae and microtrichia. Inferior volsella ( Fig. 47D) 88 µm long, nearly parallel-sided, with 1 caudally directed prominent apical seta. Gonostylus 126 µm long, inner margin setae short, few, not clumped, more in lower half. HR 1.38.

Remarks. Wing membrane with few macrotrichia apically in cells r 4+ 5 m 1+2 and m 3+4 differs from the description and illustration in Sasa and Suzuki (2000b). Further, LR 1 is 1.32 and not 2.10.

Distribution. Known only from Japan.
