Type:— PERU. Cusco: Prov. Quispicanchi, alrededores de Marcapata, 2630–2700 m, 13 September 1984, R . Fernández G. 487, (holotype: USM! isotype: AMO!)

Distribution:— Peru and Colombia. In Peru it is found in the department of Cusco and Huancavelica. Found in the central and south-eastern Peruvian Andes, in humid montane forests. The Huancavelica record is near the AmaruHuachocolpa-Chihuana Cloud Forest Regional Conservation Area.

Notes:— Epidendrum retrosepalum is recognized by the leaves 1.3–2 cm long, green and concolor, ovatelanceolate, apex acute, the sepals 7 mm long, reflexed, triangular, acute, and the lip orbicular with the margin crenulate. Vegetatively it is similar to E. oscar-perezii but that species has leaves 2.0– 3.2 cm long, adaxially tinged intense purple with the surface rugose, the lateral sepals elliptic, obtuse, and the lip with the margin entire.

Conservation Status:— DD. Data deficient.
