Material examined. Paraguay: 1 ♀, [Itapúa], Pirapó, 28–31.xii.1971, L. Peña col. ( MZUSP; MZ017905).

Distribution. Paraguay (Itapúa: Pirapó).

Comments. In the most complete key to Merosargus species ( James & McFadden 1971), this species keys out as M. pallifrons Curran, 1932b . They both have a similar color pattern on the head, with the upper frons yellow medially and black laterally, legs mostly yellowish, and the presence of brown markings over the abdomen. However, Merosargus sp. 1 , differs from M. pallifrons , in having a setose alula and wide brownish maculae over the thorax, forming a three-banded thorax.
