Aguassay View in CoL , new genus

Type Species. Cerambyx collaris Klug, 1825 View in CoL .

Description. Head elongate. Frons as long as broad, oblique, plane. Clypeus about ⅔ as long as frons; clypeal suture rounded to angulate. Eyes very finely faceted, emarginate; lower lobes large, prominent, somewhat projected onto frons; upper lobes wellseparated, about ⅓ as wide as lower lobes. Antennal tubercles moderately prominent, slightly acuminate. Genae as long as lower eye lobes. Mandibles somewhat enlarged, curved at apex, acute, fringed along inner border. Apical segment of palps cylindrical, attenuate at apex and base. Antennae 11segmented, filiform, longer than body in both sexes. Scape cylindrical, shallowly grooved, slightly shorter than segment 3; segment 3 twice as long as 4; segments 5–11 subequal, longer than 3. Prothorax longer than broad, subcylindrical, attenuate from base to apex, widest at basal third. Pronotum with four gibbosities, somewhat impressed beyond middle. Prosternum with intercoxal process narrow and parallel sided between procoxae, suddenly expanded beyond coxae. Anterior coxal cavities rounded at sides, open behind. Mesosternum with intercoxal process moderately prominent, vertical in front, wider than mesocoxa, parallelsided, shallowly emarginate at apex. Metepisternum narrow, subparallelsided. Scutellum small, subtriangular. Elytra about 3 times as long as width across humeri, subparallel, slightly narrowed before middle, attenuate only at apices; strongly costate laterally above vertical epipleura. Disk without costae, broadly subdepressed in middle at basal half, longitudinally elevated near lateral margins. Epipleuron vertical, strongly costate, the costa sparsely, weakly asperate punctate, each puncture with a short seta. Apices narrowly truncate, with a short spine at outer angle. Hind legs twice as long as forelegs. Femora gradually clavate, carinate on both sides of peduncles, rounded at apices. Metafemora exceeding elytral apices by ⅔ of club length. Tibiae somewhat quadrangular, shallowly grooved on four sides, feebly asperate punctate, sparsely setose. Tibial spurs short, subequal. First segment of metatarsi ⅓ longer than the following two combined. Abdomen somewhat oval. First urosternite longer than the following two combined, intercoxal process broadly rounded at apex.

Etymology. Aguassay View in CoL is an indigenous name, from Tupi, meaning ‘‘spirit inhabiting the forest.’’

Remarks. Aguassay View in CoL superficially resembles Rhopalophora AudinetServille (1834) (Rhopalophorini) View in CoL in regards to the short fourth antennal segment, the prothorax shape and the medially depressed elytra which are not carinate dorsally. However, in all other morphological characteristics Aguassay View in CoL is typical of Cleomenini View in CoL , the reason why it is here assigned to this tribe.
