Chlamydotheca incisa ( Claus 1892) Sharpe 1910 View in CoL

Chlamydotheca incisa View in CoL — Martens & Behen 1994: 17; C. incisa View in CoL — Karanovic 2012: 560.

Synonyms: Pachycypris incisa Claus 1892 ; Cypris (Eucypris) limbata Wierzejski 1892 View in CoL (= senior synonym); Eucypris (Chlamydotheca) limbata Wierzejski 1892 View in CoL ; Cypris labiata Sars 1901 ; Chlamydotheca labiata M̧ller 1912 (see Martens & Behen 1994; Meisch et al. 2019).

Type locality: Claus (1892) does not clearly indicate the origin of the material. However, like Sharpe (1910), we suggest that it corresponds to Peitiado Pond (“Laguna de Peitiado”), Córdoba Province, Argentina (see remarks, GN 31°24’49” S, 64°10’52” W). Part of the material is deposited in the ZMC.

In Venezuela: the presence of this species is doubtful (see remarks): DISTRITO CAPITAL —Caracas ( Karanovic 2012), probably the record of C. incisa comes from Claus (1892).

Remarks: geographical distribution includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay ( Martens & Behen 1994), and in Italy as an alien invasive species ( McKenzie & Moroni 1986; Rossi et al. 2003). Martens & Behen (1994) also indicate doubts about the record of the species in Venezuela. Claus (1892), in the original description of the species, writes: “ Von dieser mit Pachycypris leuckarti nahe verwandten, jedoch an Gr̂sse beträchtlich zuŗckstehenden Art fand ich unter den bei Córdova (Laguna Peitiado) gesammelten Cypriden nur wenige Exemplare, unter den Cypriden Venezuelas wurde dieselbe vermisst ”, emphasizing that this species was absent in the material from Venezuela. Since then, there have been no reports of C. incisa in subsequent studies. Thus, its assignment in Venezuela could be the result of a mistake in the reviews made. In addition, the geographical coordinates provided by Karanovic (2012) for Caracas do not correspond to the locality originally described by Claus (1892) to Strandesia bicuspis var. mucronata , and Chlamydotheca leuckarti var. pallida .
