A. aspera Jeannel, 1936: 66 View in CoL
(as asper) [but see Note 1]; Szymczakowski, 1963: 675 (as asper) [but see Note 2]; Gnaspini, 1996: 539 (types seen); Salgado, 2010c: 213 (assignment to group); Gnaspini & Peck, 2019: 33, 36 ([probable] holotype seen; assignment to subgroup).
? Holotype male (sex and number of specimens not given in original description) in BMNH and MNHN [in original description, where specimen(s) from the type locality are listed only from BMNH; therefore we interpret that Jeannel, 1936 considered the latter (1 male, in Gnaspini, 1996) to be the holotype; additionally, 1 male and 1 female in MNHN, in Gnaspini, 1996).
Type locality: Alto da Serra, São Paulo State, Brazil [Note: “Alto da Serra” is presently known as Paranapiacaba, a Biological Station and a settlement near (SE) São Paulo city].
Distribution: Brazil: São Paulo State: (probably) known only from (vicinity of) type locality.
Note 1: The record in Jeannel, 1936:66 ( Brazil: Santa Catarina) is considered doubtful because it was based on a female, and the record from Paraguay (with no reference to sex and numbers) was also considered doubtful in Gnaspini & Peck, 2019: 36.
Note 2: The record in Szymczakowski, 1963: 675 ( Brazil: São Paulo), based on females and a non-illustrated male, was considered doubtful in Gnaspini & Peck, 2019: 36, although from the vicinity of the type locality.
