Platycleis (Platycleis) albopunctat a (Goeze, 1778)

Distribution. Large part of Palearctic.

Previous records for Turkey. IÇZMIÇR ( Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1882); KAHRAMANMARASË (BolõÂvar, 1899) ; ADANA: Haruniye, Ebene , July 1914 ; IÇZMIÇT: Gebze , August 1913 ; KAHRAMANMARA SË: GoÈksun , 1914 ( Ebner, 1919) .

Remarks. Surprisingly, no new records of P. albopunctata were made after 1919, thus this species was included in the keys on the base of characters of European populations.

P. albopunctata transiens Zeuner, 1941 , which was described from southern Alps and Greece, is morphologically very similar to P. intermedia and cannot be easily separate d (Zeuner, 1941; Harz, 1969; Willemse, 1984, 1985; Ragge, 1990). The specimens from Izmir (1, 1 in NMW) mentioned as P. grisea f. transiens by Brunner von Wattenwyl, cannot morphologically be separated from P. intermedia intermedia . A record of TazeguÈl (1993) is based on only one female and his ®gures show P. a nis. However, P. albopunctata and P. intermedia can be easily separated by their songs (e.g. Samways, 1976; Heller, 1988; Ragge, 1990).

During an expedition to Turkey in 1983, when the participants were unaware of this taxonomic problem, songs with a structure typical of P. albopunctata were heard at the following localities: Bursa, Ulufer CË ayõ, south of UludagÏ, 400 m ; Bursa, UludagÏ, 900 m ; Bolu, Bolu DagÏ, 950 m ; KõrsËehir, Seyfe GoÈluÈ, 1080 m ; CË orum, Gafurlu (50 km south-west of CË orum); Samsun, 20 km south of Bafra ; Samsun, 10 km south of Samsun; Erzurum, 25 km east of Erzurum, 1900 m ; Artvin / Kars, YalnõzcËam pass, 2300 m ( Heller , unpublished data) .
