Limnomys Mearns 1905 View in CoL
Limnomys Mearns 1905 View in CoL , Proc. U. S. Natl. Mus ., 28: 451.
Type Species: Limnomys sibuanus Mearns 1905
Species and subspecies: 2 species:
Species Limnomys bryophilus Rickart, Heaney, and Tabaranza 2003
Species Limnomys sibuanus Mearns 1905
Discussion: Rattus Division. Taxonomic history and past erroneous association with Rattus reviewed by Musser (1977 b), and Musser and Heaney (1992). Revised by Musser and Heaney (1992), who considered Limnomys a montane forest member of the Philippine New Endemics. Phylogenetic analyses of complete mtDNA cytochrome b sequences for 13 of the 16 genera of endemic Philippine rodents indicates that species of Limnomys are sister-taxa to Tarsomys , and in a clade containing species of Rattus everetti and Bullimus ( Jansa and Heaney, 2001) , which are also New Endemics. This alliance along with membership in the Rattus Division corroborated by chromosomal data (Rickart and Heaney, 2002).
