Breinlia (Breinlia) thylogale ( Mackerras, 1954) Chabaud & Bain, 1976

Dipetalonema thylogali Mackerras, 1954, pp. 54–56 , figs. 5–9, pl. 1 fig. 4, peritoneal and pleural cavities (Thylogale stigmatica wilcoxi) (as. Thylogale wilcoxi). Tamborine, Queensland.; Spratt & Varughese, 1975 pp. 63–67, figs. 133–143 (Thylogale billardierii (Desmarest, 1822)).

Breinlia thylogale (Mackerras) Yeh, 1957, p. 202 ; (spelling emendation) Mackerras 1962, pp. 417–418, figs. 14–15, pl. 2 figs. 2–3.

Breinlia (Breinlia) thylogale (Mackerras) Chabaud & Bain, 1976, p.377 ; Spratt et al. 1991, p. 69.

Type host. Thylogale stigmatica wilcoxi (McCoy) (Marsupialia: Macropodidae )

Other hosts. Thylogale billardierii (Desmarest).

Site in host: Peritoneal and pleural cavities.

Other material examined: From Thylogale billardierii: TAS: 1♀. ( N961 ) “Icena” .

Distribution and hosts. Breinlia (B.) thylogale has been found occasionally in two species of pademelons in southeast Queensland and in Tasmania. This may be indicative of its relative rarity or reflect the few studies of the helminth communities occurring in all sites and tissues of the three species of pademelons belonging to the genus Thylogale. Beveridge et al. (1992) reported no filarioids in 12 T. stigmatica stigmatica (Gould) and one T. stigmatica coxenii (Gray) examined from north Queensland.

Remarks. Breinlia (B.) thylogale is most similar to B. (B.) pseudocheiri from Pseudocheirus peregrinus convolutor from Tasmania but distinguished from it by the longer left spicule with longer filament, shorter right spicule and shorter microfilaria.
