Until recently considered to include M. chrysochaetes , and limited genetic data suggest they are closely related. Monotypic.

Descriptive notes. Head-body 34- 5-35 mm, tail 27-30- 5 mm, ear 12- 3 mm, hindfoot 6: 5 mm, forearm 29-7-29- 8 mm; weight 4- 2 g. Fur is long and silky; dorsally bright orangish brown (hairs are dark brown, with longer guard hairs dark brown-based with tricolored distal half, going from pale brown, darker brown,to bright orange gold at tip); ventrally pale silvery gray (hairs with dark brown bases, pale silvery gray tips). Dorsal pelage extends sparsely onto wings, uropatagium, thumbs, and feet. Face is sparsely haired except long protuberant nostrils, which are naked. Ears are short, broad, and rounded, with smoothly convex anterior margins, small notch on posterior margin, and broadly rounded tip; tragus is long, narrow, and tapering toward pointed tip. Wing attaches to base of claw on first toe. Skull has fairly domed braincase and non-inflated rostrum; no sagittal crest, and lambdoidal crests are weakly developed. Basal area of C' is much smaller than that of P*; P* is less than half height of P*; mesostyles of M' and M? are very weak; talonids of M, and M, are modestly separated from their respective trigonids.

Habitat. Captured in a small humid ravine surrounded by mixed deciduous forest dominated by Manglietia ( Magnoliaceae ). Recorded at 1400-1800 m.

Status and Conservation. Not assessed on The IUCN Red Lust, due to its recent recognition as a species. Currently only known from a few specimens at two localities.
