GENUS ANCHOPHTHALMOPS KOCH, 1956 , SENS. NOV.

= Platykochius Iwan, 2002a syn. nov. Type species: Selinus platessa Fairmaire, 1887 ; by original designation.

Type species: Anchophthalmops brevipleurum Koch, 1956 ; by original designation.

Diagnostic characters: Anchophthalmops , Eleoselinus , Monodius , and Selinus form a clade supported by two synapomorphies: trapezoidal apophyseal indentations of the pronotal disc (12:1) and a bellied intercoxal process of the prosternum (character 22:1). Within this group, Anchophthalmops most closely resembles Eleoselinus , as they share a similar structure of elytra (character 27:1).

Anchophthalmops is distinguished from all other Afrotropical platynotoid Platynotina by the following synapomorphies: a small scutellum (ratio of the width of a single elytra to the base of the scutellum> 15.0) (character 35:1) and a strongly widened lateral part of the base of the parameres (character 41:1).

Distribution: Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, Somalia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe.
