Eupolyphaga View in CoL sp. 1
( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 , 12 View FIGURE 12 E–J)
Polyphaga plancyi: Hanitsch 1933: 3 View in CoL , “ 1 male, S. Kansu, River Minchow, 30.VI.30 ”.
Eupolyphaga fusca: Princis 1962: 55 View in CoL , considered the record of Polyphaga plancyi in Hanitsch (1933) View in CoL as E. fusca View in CoL .
Material examined. CHINA: Gansu: 1 male and 2 females (NRM), all labeled “Kina/ S. Kansu ”; “Sven Hedins/ Exp. Ctr. Asien/ Dr Hummel”; “ 30. 6. 30 ”; male (NRM-BLAT 0000058) with two determined labels: “ Polyphaga plancyi Bol. male/ Det. R, Hanitsch 1932” and “ Eupolyphaga fusca Chop. male/ K. Princis det. 1952”; one female (NRM-BLAT 0000043) with a determined label: “ Eupolyphaga sinensis Wlk. female/ Det. R. Hanitsch 1932”; 1 female ( IZCAS), Shangdanbao [上丹堡], Wenxian County [文县], Longnan City [陇南市], 27.VI.1998, no collector recorded .
Remarks. This is a new species, but currently no materials are available for study. Hanitsch (1933) firstly recorded the male of the species from South Gansu, but he treated it as Polyphaga plancyi . Later, Princis (1962) considered it as Eupolyphaga fusca . It’s doubtful that E. fusca could be distributed in Gansu where is very far from the known localities in Yunnan. After examining the specimens in NRM (by photos), we found that the specimen mentioned in Hanitsch (1933) is certainly not P. plancyi , it’s an undescribed species belonging to Eupolyphaga . Male of this species is distinct with unicolored brown body excepting pronotum ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 E–F), The pronotum anteriorly with a whitish margin which is interrupted medially at cephalic margin ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 I–J). Two blackish female Eupolyphaga species from NRM with the same collecting data were also examined (one of which shown in Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 G–H), we considered them as the female of this undescribed species; one additional blackish female from South Gansu (IZCAS), is also considered to be the same species. Additional materials are needed for updating the knowledge of this species.
