THE ADELPHOMYINAE
Of the four genera of the Adelphomyinae whose phylogenetic position is evaluated here ( Xylechimys was preliminarily excluded from the analyses), only Adelphomys and Stichomys are placed close to each other, at the same polytomy within the dactylomyine–echimyine clade. Deseadomys appears at the basal polytomy outside the crown-group Echimyidae , whereas Paradelphomys appears at a wellderived position, as the sister-taxon of Olallamys . This non-monophyletic condition of the Adelphomyinae had already been suggested by Vucetich & Verzi (1991).
