Type-species. Eutettix infuscata Osborn, 1923 , by original designation.

Redescription, based on Zanol (1999) and Zahniser (2007).

Length. 4–7 mm.

Coloration. Mostly ochraceous, orange, brown or black. Crown with black, brown, white, or orange bands, maculae, spots, or lines. Anterior margin of head with or without alternating dark and light transverse stripes.

External morphology. Head subequal to or wider than pronotum; coronal suture visible, reaching or not midlength of crown; crown not or slightly produced, apex equal to or less than 1.5x length next to eye, depressed or transversely sulcate; discal portion of crown glabrous or striate; transition of crown to face angled; texture of anterior margin of head shagreen, transversely striate, with several irregular carinae or with 2 or 3 parallel carinae. Frontogenal suture reaching ocellus. Ocellus medium sized to large; close to eyes, separated from eye by less than 1/3 distance from eye to crown apex; on or near anterior margin. Antennal bases near middle or posteroventral corners of eyes. Antennal ledges absent. Mesal margin of eye entire or notched; eye half width of crown or wider. Frons broad, median length greater or shorter than width; texture shagreen. Clypellar suture complete; arcuate or straight. Clypellus parallel sided; tapering or widening apically; relatively flat or tumid in lateral view. Gena incised laterally; single fine erect seta on gena close to frontogenal suture present. Lorum subequal to or wider than clypellus near base. Pronotum lateral margins carinate; with or without transverse striations. Forewing rounded apically; macropterous; with three anteapical cells, inner anteapical cell usually open, outer anteapical cell rounded or truncate, or if acuminate then not particularly small; vein R1 diverging basad or distad of R fork; with or without reflexed costal veins; brachial cell without extra crossveins; with or without crossvein between A1 and claval suture; anal veins not strongly curved, meeting commissural margin obliquely; A1–A2 crossveins present or absent; appendix restricted to anal margin. Hindwing with or without slight pigmentation. Profemur with only AM1 present or with AM1 and one or more additional proximal setae, AM1 near ventral margin of femur; intercalary row with 13–20 setae; row AV 9–24 short, stout macrosetae, AV1 seta poorly or well differentiated from intercalary row setae. Protibia row AD with one macroseta; row PD with four macrosetae. Mesotrochanter without stout apical setae. Metafemur setal formula 2:2:1. Metatibia without basal stout setae on dorsal surface; row PD with macrosetae not longer than half length of protibial setae, more or less equal in length; basal dorsal width subequal to width near apex; pecten setae uneven. Metatarsomere I not expanded apically, long, slender, plantar setae all simple; pecten with three platellate setae; inner apical seta of pecten acuminate or platellate.

Male genitalia. Pygofer articulated with valve and subgenital plates; dorsoapical margin incised to near midlength; macrosetae absent or reduced, or well differentiated into several rows; without dense tufts of thick or fine setae; with or without dorsal process, with or without ventral process, tooth, or spine. Segment X sclerotized laterally and mostly or fully sclerotized dorsally; not particularly large; without process. Subgenital plates triangular; longer than wide; outer margin concave at least in part or nearly straight; macrosetae uniseriate; with or without long fine setae; apex pointed or rounded. Style preapical lobe reduced or absent; apophysis apical region between preapical lobe and apex shorter than rest of style, straight or curved, texture smooth or denticulate; apex rounded, pointed or truncate. Aedeagus long and slender; symmetrical; preatrium absent or reduced; shaft arising from ventral part of socle; without basal processes; without medial processes; with one or two pairs of apical processes; gonopore apical or subapical. Phragma membranous. Connective anterior arms somewhat divergent or parallel; stem present, longer or shorter than anterior arms; articulated with aedeagus; without processes.

Female terminalia. Pygofer with numerous macrosetae. Ovipositor not protruding far beyond pygofer apex. First valvula convex; dorsal sculpturing pattern strigate, reaching dorsal margin, basal sculpturing distinctly more elongate than apical sculpturing; without distinctly delimited ventroapical sculpturing. First valvifers not fused anteriorly. Second valvula broad, tapering apically; with dorsal median tooth; series of teeth distributed on apical 1/ 3 or more, teeth relatively small and short, regularly to irregularly shaped, teeth not serrated. Gonoplac with several to 12 distinct setae apically or subapically.
