Salsola calluna Fenzl View in CoL , in schedis, (Ecklon & Zeyher 1448 WU!).

Salsola calluna Fenzl ex Drège View in CoL in Flora 2, Beigabe: 50, 56, 217 (1843), nom. nud. (Art. 38.1a of ICN).

Notes: ― Feodorova (2011) used a wrong form of the species epithet (‘ callunum ’). The epithet apparently alludes to Calluna vulgaris ( Ericaceae ) of which the flowering/fruiting branches of this Caroxylon species are remotely reminiscent. ‘ Calluna ’ is the nown and the specific epithet should be preserved. Moreover, when proposing her new combination, Feodorova (2011) also provided a wrong citation of the basionym, thus making her combination invalid. The combination is validated here and Feodorova’s authorship is preserved.

Distribution: ―South Africa (FS, NC, WC?, EC): southern Bushmanland, Upper Karoo, Middelburg region, salt pan region of western Free State and Griqualand West.
