Note on typification of the generic name: ― Thunberg (1782: 239–241) in the protologue of the genus Caroxylon introduced and validly described only one species, Caroxylon salsola , and this species should be considered the type of the genus. Brullo et al. (2013) claimed that Caroxylon was typified by Botschantzev (1974d) and suggested that the latter author chose S. aphylla (erroneously cited as ‘ S. aphilla ’) as the type of the genus. In fact, however, Botschantzev (1974d) has typified subsection Caroxylon of the section Caroxylon (in Salsola ). The Botchantzev’s (1974d) typification is in error because at the time of description of the genus there was only one element (one species) available for typification, Caroxylon salsola .
