Type species. Kisakiellus aweti sp. nov.
Etymology. NAMED IN HONOR TO THE TAXON COLLECTOR, TIAgO BORgES KISAKA, A BRAZILIAN LIMNOLOgIST PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN THE HEADSTREAM bIOLOgY.
Diagnosis. Females. IN LATERAL VIEW, THE bODY IS ELONgATED, RELATIVELY LOW, WITH A SHALLOW DEPRESSION bETWEEN THE ARTICULATION Of THE VALVES AND THE HEAD SHIELD. VENTRAL MARgIN HAS WIDE fLANgES IN ITS ANTERIOR PORTION. THE POSTERIOR MARgIN IS STRONgLY CONCAVE, NAKED, WITH POSTERODORSAL ANgLE AS A SHORT AND ObTUSE PROjECTION . IN DORSAL AND VENTRAL VIEWS, THE bODY IS bROAD OVAL AND EXHIbITS A fLAP THAT SURROUNDS THE ENTIRE VALVES. HEAD SHIELD WITH A WIDE, ROUNDED ANTERIOR MARgIN; fORNICES PROjECTED bACKWARDS, WITH TWO ISOLATED MAIN HEAD PORES; LATERAL PORES ARE AbSENT. LAbRAL KEEL ELONgATED, NOT DEVELOPED, ITS APEX ARMED WITH LONg SETULAE. SENSORY SETA ON THE ANTENNULE THICK AND CURVED. ANTENNAL fORMULA (EXO/ENDO): SPINES 001/101 AND SETAE 013/003. THE ODL ON THE LIMb I HAS A SHORT, THICK SETA ARMED WITH SPINES; ENDITE 3 WITH jUST TWO SETAE. EXOPODITE Of THE LIMb II SHORT AND TRIANgULAR-SHAPED; SETA 3 WITH THE INNER PORTION MARKEDLY LONg, SETAE 6–8 ARE PLUMOSE. LIMb III WITH SEVEN SETAE ON THE EXOPODITE, AND A DISTAL ENDITE ARMED WITH TWO SETAE AND AN ELEMENT. THE HEIgHT Of THE EXOPODITE Of THE LIMb IV IS ROUgHLY SIMILAR TO THE WIDTH ITSELf, SEVEN SETAE ARE PRESENT, Of WHICH THE SEVENTH IS fLAT, WITH ITS DISTAL PORTION SPEARHEAD-SHAPED. LIMb V WITH THE fIRST SETA INSERTED POSTERIORLY, LONg AND PLUMOSE; SETA 2 Of THE INTERNAL LObE SHORT AND ARMED WITH STIff SPINULAE; APEX CHITHINIZED; fILTER COMb WITH fOUR SETAE. POSTAbDOMEN RELATIVELY SHORT, NOT LATERALLY COMPRESSED; VENTRAL MARgIN STRONgLY ARCHED; PREANAL MARgIN RELATIVELY LONg, ANAL AND POSTANAL MARgINS ARMED WITH SETULAE. POSTAbDOMINAL CLAW CURVED, LONgER THAN THE POSTANAL AND ANAL MARgINS; VENTRAL MARgIN COVERED bY SPINES. BASAL SPINES ARE AbSENT.
Ephippial females and males. UNKNOWN.
Differential diagnosis. Kisakiellus gen. nov. COULD bE EASILY DIffERENTIATED fROM ANY OTHER gENERA Of THE CHYDORIDAE bY ITS bODY SHAPE, WHICH IS ELONgATED IN A LATERAL VIEW, RELATIVELY LOW, AND bY THE PRESENCE Of WIDE ANTERIOR fLANgES ALONg THE VENTRAL MARgIN. IN bOTH DORSAL AND VENTRAL VIEWS, THE bODY IS bROADLY OVAL, EXHIbITINg A fLAP THAT SURROUNDS THE ENTIRE VALVES. IN Kisakiellus gen. nov., THE ROSTRUM IS VERY WIDE, ITS LATERAL PARTS ARE EXPANDED fROM THE MANDIbULAR ARTICULATION, fORMINg TWO fORNICES. ON THE ANTENNULES, THERE IS A THICK AND CURVED ANTENNULAR SENSORY SETA. ALSO, Kisakiellus gen. nov. HAS jUST TWO SETAE ON THE ENDITE 3 Of LIMb I; SHORT AND THICK ODL SETA ARMED WITH SPINES; THE SETAE 6–7 ON THE INNER PORTION Of THE LIMb II PLUMOSE; THE SEVENTH SETAE ON THE LIMb IV fLAT, WITH ITS DISTAL PORTION SPEARHEAD-SHAPED; AND THE LIMb V WITH A VERY LONg AND POSTERIORLY INSERTED fIRST SETA. THE POSTAbDOMEN IS SHORT AND LACKINg ANY MARgINAL DENTICLES. THE POSTAbDOMINAL CLAW IS COVERED bY SPINES, WITHOUT A bASAL SPINE.
