Type locality.

"Tane-ga-shima, Osumi".

Material examined.

ANSP 82480a (lectotype, designated by Baker 1964, photographs examined); 種子ヶ島 = 種子島 (Tanegashima), Toru Inaba coll., NSMT-Mo 66469 (5 shells).

Remarks.

Protoconch low, finely granulated, rather matte; R2 with ca. 20 low, blunt, regular ribs which are some distance from each other even near the tube; distance between ribs at edge of body whorl is larger than a rib width; no spiral lines visible on the teleoconch.

Minato (1988) treated Chamalycaeus tanegashimae as a subspecies of Chamalycaeus satsumanus . According to our classification, Chamalycaeus satsumanus and Sigmacharax tanegashimae belong to different genera ( Dicharax and Metalycaeus , respectively).
