Genus CEPHALOCHRYSA Kertész

Cephalochrysa Kertész, 1912: 99 . Type species, Sargus hovas Bigot, 1859 , by original designation. Parasargus Lindner, 1935: 300 . Type species, Parasargus africanus Lindner, 1935 [= Microchrysa stigmatica Enderlein ], by monotypy.

Isosargus James, 1936: 273 . Type species, Chrysonotus nigricornis Loew, 1866 , by original designation.

Cephalochrysa bigoti (Lindner) . Comb. nov.

Chrysochroma bigoti Lindner, 1968: 5 . ST 9 ♂, 2 ♀ [MNHN], 2 ♂ [SMNS]: Madagascar: Ivondro, Ranomafana, Fort Dauphin, and Périnet.

We examined two male syntypes [SMNS, MNHN]. Although this species has a rather elongate abdomen, which is atypical for Cephalochrysa , it also has the male eyes holoptic with separated large and small ommatidia. Because of the eye morphology we place this species in Cephalochrysa . The species was listed under the “unplaced species of Sarginae ” in Woodley (2001: 230).

Cephalochrysa flavum (Lindner) . Comb. nov.

Chrysochroma flavum Lindner, 1968: 6 . ST 1 ♂ [MNHN]: Madagascar: Ranomafana; ST 1 ♂ [SMNS], 1 ♀ [MNHN]: Madagascar: Ivondro.

We examined two male syntypes of C. flavum [SMNS, MNHN] and this species fits well with the concept of Cephalochrysa . The species was listed under the “unplaced species of Sarginae ” in Woodley (2001: 231).

Cephalochrysa fortunatum (Lindner) . Comb. nov.

Chrysochroma fortunatum Lindner, 1966b: 8 . HT ♂ [ MNHN]: Madagascar: Ambodivoangy.

We have studied the male holotype of Chrysochroma fortunatum [MNHN] and this species fits well with the concept of Cephalochrysa . The species was listed under the “unplaced species of Sarginae ” in Woodley (2001: 231).

Cephalochrysa lapidis (Lindner) . Comb. nov.

Chrysochroma lapidis Lindner, 1966b: 7 . ST 1 ♂ [MNHN]: Madagascar: Joffreville; ST 1 ♀ [NMB]: Madagascar: Nossy Bé. Chrysochroma lapidus: Woodley 2001: 231 . Incorrect subsequent spelling.

We have studied the male syntype [MNHN] ( Fig. 16 ), and the species fits well with the concept of Cephalochrysa . The species was listed under the “unplaced species of Sarginae ” in Woodley (2001: 231).

Cephalochrysa latum (Lindner) . Comb. nov.

Chrysochroma latum Lindner, 1966b: 8 . HT ♀ [ MNHN]: Madagascar: Fort Dauphin.

We have studied the female holotype [MNHN] ( Fig. 17 ), and the species fits well with the concept of Cephalochrysa . The species was listed under the “unplaced species of Sarginae ” in Woodley (2001: 231).

Cephalochrysa lucens (Lindner) . Comb. nov.

Chrysochroma lucens Lindner, 1968: 8 . ST 22 ♂, 6 ♀ [ MNHN, 5 in SMNS]: Madagascar: Bekily and Behara.

We have studied several male syntypes [ SMNS, MNHN], and the species fits well with the concept of Cephalochrysa . It is the only completely metallic green Cephalochrysa species from Madagascar. The species was listed under the “unplaced species of Sarginae ” in Woodley (2001: 231).

Cephalochrysa matilei (Lindner) . Comb. nov.

Chrysochroma matilei Lindner, 1979: 308 . HT ♀ [ MNHN]: Comoro Islands: Grand Comoro, La Grille (Guiri), 850–900 m.

We have studied the female holotype [MNHN], and the species fits well with the concept of Cephalochrysa . In fact it could be conspecific with C. lapidis , but we want to wait for a thorough revision of this difficult genus. The species was listed under the “unplaced species of Sarginae ” in Woodley (2001: 231).

Cephalochrysa triste (Lindner) . Comb. nov.

Chrysochroma triste Lindner, 1966b: 6 . HT ♀ [ MNHN]: Madagascar: Montagne d’Ambre.

We have studied the female holotype [MNHN], and the species fits well with the concept of Cephalochrysa . The species was listed under the “unplaced species of Sarginae ” in Woodley (2001: 232).

Cephalochrysa turbidum (Lindner) . Comb. nov.

Chrysochroma turbidum Lindner, 1965: 54 . HT ♂ [ IRSNB]: Zaire: Parc National de la Garamba, Aka/2.

We have studied the male holotype [IRSNB], and the species fits well with the concept of Cephalochrysa . The species was listed under the “unplaced species of Sarginae ” in Woodley (2001: 232).

Cephalochrysa vadoni (Lindner) . Comb. nov.

Chrysochroma vadoni Lindner, 1966b: 6 . HT ♀ [ MNHN]: Madagascar: Fampanambo.

We have studied the female holotype [MNHN], and the species fits with the concept of Cephalochrysa . The species was listed under the “unplaced species of Sarginae ” in Woodley (2001: 233).
