Valves lanceolate, elliptic-lanceolate or oblong-elliptic, with subcuneate, bluntly rounded or weakly produced apices, length 70–210 µm, breadth 30–46 µm. Valve surface striate, striae slightly radiate, punctate, interrupted on both sides of the raphe by extensions of the central area. Lateral area more or less straight or slightly convergent towards the apical nodules. Axial area straight, narrow, between the raphe and the lateral areas short, and towards the apices it becomes reduced to 1–2 areolae.

Distribution:—Known from British coastal waters ( Hendey 1964), and the Mediterranean Sea (H. & M. Peragallo 1897 –1908). Black Sea, Romanian coast ( Bodeanu 1987 –1988, Caraus 2002); Bulgaria ( Temniskova-Topalova & Petrova-Karadjova 1998), North-western region ( Ryabushko 1991, Guslyakov et al. 1992, Guslyakov 2002), Crimean ( Proshkina-Lavrenko 1963a, Guslyakov & Nevrova 1998, Nevrova & Revkov 2003, Nevrova et al. 2003, Nevrova 2010) and Caucasian coasts ( Nevrova 1999b).
