Valves broad-elliptic to elliptic-lanceolate with cuneate broadly to obtusely rounded apices, length 45–148 µm, length 24–46 µm. Raphe straight, external central endings expanded, distant, axial area moderately broad, towards central nodule narrowed, central area transversely rectangular connected to lateral areas. Lateral areas variable in length, fairly narrow, more narrowed towards apices, in the middle constricted, terminating below apices. Transapical striae in the marginal zone radiate 12 in 10 µm, finely punctate, 22–30 areolae in 10 µm.

Distribution:—Widespread (cosmopolitan) marine species, found in the coast of the Adriatic, Baltic, Barents, Black, Japan, Mediterranean, North-, Norwegian-, Red-, Black- and White Seas ( Witkowski et al. 2000, Tsarenko et al. 2009). Black Sea, North-western region ( Guslyakov & Nevrova 1998, Guslyakov 2002, Gerasimiuk & Kovtun 2007), Bulgarian coast ( Temniskova-Topalova & Petrova-Karadjova 1998), Romanian coast ( Bodeanu 1987 –1988, Caraus 2002), Crimea ( Proshkina-Lavrenko 1963a, Kucherova 1973, Ryabushko 1991, 2001, Nevrova 1999 a, 2010, Nevrova & Revkov 2003, Nevrova et al. 2003, Senichkina et al. 2004), Caucasian coast ( Proshkina-Lavrenko 1963 a, Nevrova 1996, 1999b).
