Lateral areas moderately broad, in general linear, parallel or usually in the middle constricted, encompassing ¼ to ½ of the valve width. Transapical striae in the marginal part of the valve slightly radiate, 7–14, usually 10–12 in 10 µm (cited from Witkowski et al. (2000: 229–230).

Distribution:—Marine species of cosmopolitan distribution, entering also the western Baltic Sea ( Witkowski et al. 2000); Black Sea, North-western region ( Guslyakov et al. 1992), Bulgarian (Temniskova- Topalova & Petrova-Karadjova 1998), Romanian ( Bodeanu 1987 –1988, Caraus 2002), Crimean (Proshkina- Lavrenko 1963a, Kucherova 1973, Guslyakov & Nevrova 1987, Nevrova 1996, 1999 a, 2010, Ryabushko & Ryabushko 2001, Nevrova & Revkov 2003, Senichkina et al. 2004) and Caucasian coasts ( Proshkina-Lavrenko 1963a, Nevrova 1999b).
