Type Locality: South Africa, Western Cape Prov., "rapportée des mers du cap de Bonne-Espérance" (= Cape of Good Hope).

Vernacular Names: Pygmy Sperm Whale.

Synonyms: Kogia floweri Gill 1871 ; Kogia goodei True 1884 ; Kogia grayii (Wall 1851) .

Distribution: Worldwide: temperate to tropical waters.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
