Material

BRAZIL, GOIÁS, Parque Nacional das Emas, Rio Formoso, 14.X. 1982, N. Santos, L. F. Netto & Décio leg., 2 males, both emerged in 19X 1982 (final instar larval exuviae). Material deposited at the entomological collection of the Departamento de Entomologia, Museu Nacional, UFRJ, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Description

Similar to C. longfieldae as described above, differing by the following features. Color pattern fairly uniform, brown with some ochraceous areas.

Head ( Figs 7–10 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ). Eyes slightly prominent posteriorly. Labrum and clypeus brownish. Areas corresponding to muscular insertions of occiput glabrous. Antennae with the first and the fourth the shortest, similar in length. Mandibles: L 1234 0 ab (k?) / R 1234 y aa’(m1)b (k?). Prementum width a little shorter than 2/3 of its length; ligula pronounced, with median cleft closed; group of 2 to 4 short setae on each side of dorsal surface of ligula near articulation with palps; movable hook about 2.2 times as long as outer margin of first article of labial palps; palpal lamina hooked distally; distal and outer margins obtously angulate ca. 100°; internal margin and the end hook forming an angle of about 100°; pair of end hooks clearly overlapping, when the palps closed; distal margin with poorly defined denticles; outer margins, when the palps closed, forming an angle of about 100°; presence of 2 setae on dorsal surface below insertion of movable hook; 3 setae on base of the same article; movable hooks with a longitudinal row of about 20 short setae on their dorsal surface.

Thorax. Pronotum with lateral angles curved backward; pair of spots corresponding to areas of muscular insertions not evident; prothoracic pleural processes forming an angle of about 60°, in dorsal view. Wing cases with an poorly distinct subbasal dark spot on costal border. Second article of second and third pairs of legs with an additional row of tridentate spines between ventral face and posterior margin.

Abdomen ( Figs 11–12 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ). Color pattern composed by spots and pairs of muscular impressions enclosed by three dark longitudinal stripes over mediandorsal and lateral areas of segments. Lateral spines dark; lateral spine of segment 7 slightly surpassing distally the level of posterior margin of adjacent membrane; lateral spine of segment 9 surpassing the distal level of segment 10. Rows of spines adjacent to sternites and ventral intersegmental membranes poorly marked on all segments. Anal appendages brown; apexes of cerci and paraprocts a little curved upward in lateral view; apex of epiproct with two sharp lateral spines, slightly divergent in dorsal view; epiproct with a weak mediodorsal carina, not distinct at apex of appendage in dorsolateral view.
