HOLOTYPE: AMNH 511112 View Materials , adult male, collected near Paramaribo, Surinam, on 14 May 1899, from W.A. Penard. From the Rothschild Collection.

COMMENTS: Zimmer cited the AMNH number of the holotype in the original description and listed the specimens he examined ( Zimmer, 1947a: 6). Paratypes are: Demarara, Guyana, AMNH 511103 View Materials , 511104 View Materials , two [males] ; Little Wanica, Surinam, AMNH 511105 View Materials , 511106 View Materials , females ; near Paramaribo, Surinam, AMNH 96445 View Materials , 96446 View Materials , 313675 View Materials , 313676 View Materials , 511107– 511111 View Materials , 511113 View Materials , eight males and two females .

[ Hylophilus caeruleus Wied and

H. cyanoleucus Wied ]

Allen (1889b: 220–221) discussed these two names, with H. caeruleus as the female and H. cyanoleucus as the male of Nemosia pileata pileata ; these names were introduced by Wied (1831: 731 and 734, respectively). Hellmayr (1936: 368) agreed with Allen’s determination. Hylophilus caeruleus was recognized by Storer (1970: 277) as Nemosia pileata caerulea . No specimens were found in the Wied Collection that might have served as his types.
