3. Pantecphylus cerambycinus Karsch, 1891

This species appears to be widely distributed in West and Central Africa, having been reported from Guinea (Mt. Nimba) ( Chopard 1954), Cameroon (Barombi Station), Gabon, and Congo ( Beier 1962). However, in the light of the recent work by Schmidt and his collaborators, some of these records may in fact refer to other species of the genus. Heller’s (1996) description of sound production by the tegminal, and secondary, abdominoalary stridulatory mechanisms in this species refer to a recently described P. helleri Schmidt, Stelzer and Marshall (Schmidt et al.2004.)
