Geophyte. Stem subterranean. Petiole 42–99 cm long, erect, cylindrical, green to grayish with a brindle pattern, geniculum absent. Leaf-blade 17.3–33 × 19–44.5 cm, green, discolorous, sometimes with white stains adaxially, perpendicular to the petiole, membranaceous, ovate, with a flat surface, pinnatifid, absence of glandular dots. Midrib green on both sides, without extrafloral nectaries, slightly sulcate adaxially, prominent abaxially, primary lateral veins visible adaxially, slightly prominent abaxially, 5–6 on both sides, basal vein absent, collective vein absent, secondary and tertiary veins colocasioid. Inflorescence. Peduncle 34.0– 70.5 cm long, green turning lighter at the base. Spathe 9.0–13.5 × 1.0 cm, green internally, green with pinkish stripes externally. Spadix 5.5–10.2 cm long, heterogeneous, unisexual flowers, staminate flowers forming a sinandrium, cream-colored with a vinaceous dot at the center before anthesis, red in anthesis, pistillate flowers green, with an astericiform stigma, 4–5 acute green lobes, green unripe berries.

Distribution: — Asterostigma lombardii is endemic to Brazil, occurring in Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, and Santa Catarina ( Flora do Brasil 2020). Its conservation status is least concern (LC) (CNCFlora 2020). It was found in all areas (northern, central and southern) of the PESB, at the Matipó, Pico do Boné, Pedra do Pato, and Itajuru trails.

Ecology and phenology: —In the PESB, it was found flowered in June and February, with unripe berries in February. Although a population with 5 individuals was observed, most individuals were found alone.

Taxonomic notes: —Distinguished from other Araceae species found in the PESB by its geophyte habit and the pinnatifid leaf blade.
