Distribution and habitat. Very common and widespread in Europe ( Schmelz & Collado 2010; Rota 2013; Martin et al. 2015); Canada ( Dash 1970; Christensen & Dózsa-Farkas 2006); Brazil ( Schmelz & Alves 2017); Korea ( Dózsa-Farkas & Hong, 2010; Hong & Dózsa-Farkas, 2018); Russian Far East (Degtyatrev et al. 2020). Wet sites, also aquatic. In soils often in deeper strata with groundwater contact. Slightly salt-tolerant. Not at acidic sites.
Distribution in China. Hubei Province (Chen 2009); Jilin Province ( Lian et al. 2011).
Remarks. Marionina argentea auct. has been split into five species: M. mendax Rota, 2013 , M. deminuta Rota, 2013 , M. mimula Rota, 2013 , M sambugarae Schmelz, 2015 (in Martin et al. 2015), and Marionina argentea sensu stricto. It is unknown to which of these species the record in Chen (2009) belongs.
