TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Hidalgo, Tula, 6,800 ft. (2,073 m) .
DISTRIBUTION: Distrito Federal and Hidalgo to C Jalisco ( Mexico).
SYNONYMS: angustirostris Merriam, arvalis Hooper, atratus Russell , brevinasus Russell, planiceps Merriam , varius Goldman , zodius Russell.
COMMENTS: Subgenus Cratogeomys . Polytypic; subspecies reviewed by Russell (1968b).
