Basyonim: Collaea peduncularis Bentham (1837: 64) . Type: — BRAZIL. Goiás: Pohl 2071 (holotype W!) Galactia nana Burkart (1971: 775) . Type: — BRAZIL. Goiás: Contraforte Central, Irwin 25232 (holotype NY!), syn. nov.

Erect subshrub, 0.3–0.6 m tall; stems laterally flattened; leaves pinnately trifoliolate, leaflets rigid, coriaceous; inflorescences 9–27 cm long; flowers laxly arranged, 2–2.7 cm long.

Selected specimen: — BRAZIL. Distrito Federal, Brasília , 15º48'S, 47º48'W, 29 September 2001, G. P. Silva 5481, (CEN) GoogleMaps .

Distribution: —Endemic to Brazil (DF, GO, MG).

Habitat and ecology:—Cerrado biome, growing in dry and moist grassland, at elevations of 900–1100m, on shallow clay or sandy soils, often amongst rocky outcrops, on steep slopes.

Notes:—we consider G. nana , known only by the type collection, to be conspecific with G. peduncularis . Both have trifoliolate, coriaceous leaves and long inflorescences, with large (~ 20 mm), laxly spaced flowers. The vernacular name of G. peduncularis is “chapéu-de-sol”.

Phenology:— Flowering and fruiting from September to November.
