Edessa (Edessa) surinamensis sp. n.

( Figs. 45 View FIGURE 45 , 68 E–F View FIGURE 68 , 72 View FIGURE 72 )

Etymology. Named after the Country of the type locality of the species.

Material examined. Holotype male. SURINAME: Salingre , nr. 255 ( ZMH).

Measurements (n= 1). Total length: 19.7; head length: 1.7; head width: 3.4; pronotum length: 3.9; pronotum width: 13.5; scutellum length: 9.1; scutellum width: 7.0; abdominal width: 11.4; length antennomeres: I: 1.0; II: 1.5; III: 2.0; IV: 3.0; V: 3.7.

Diagnosis. Large (19.7 mm). Dorsal body surface olive green, densely punctured ( Fig. 68 E View FIGURE 68 ). Ventral surface dark yellow with transversal black bands on thorax and abdomen ( Fig. 68 F View FIGURE 68 ). Head with concolorous with the surrounding surface to brown punctures. Antennae yellow ( Fig. 68 E–F View FIGURE 68 ). Pronotum with brown punctures ( Fig. 68 E View FIGURE 68 ); anterolateral margin and cicatrices with black punctures. Humeral angles short (1.25 times wider than long); apex with brown spot expanded over the disc of the pronotum in dorsal view; bent backward ( Fig. 68 E–F View FIGURE 68 ). Scutellum with brown punctures; apex not reaching the end of coria ( Fig. 68 E View FIGURE 68 ). Coria with all veins concolorous with the surrounding surface ( Fig. 68 E View FIGURE 68 ). Connexival segments with concavities almost entirely covered by subrectangular black spots separated by a large yellow median spot ( Fig. 68 E View FIGURE 68 ), spots extending ventrally, subrectangular ( Fig. 68 F View FIGURE 68 ). Posterolateral angles of connexivum with apices black ( Fig. 68 E View FIGURE 68 ). Ventral surface, thorax with black bands; dark band of the propleura covering 2/3 of the width of the sclerite ( Fig. 68 F View FIGURE 68 ). Proepisternum with band and dark punctures ( Fig. 68 F View FIGURE 68 ). Evaporatorium concolorous with the surrounding surface; peritreme straight ( Fig. 68 F View FIGURE 68 ). Metasternal process ( Fig. 45 F View FIGURE 45 ) with arms of anterior bifurcation straight and laterally expanded at apex; anterior bifurcation slightly excavated does not reach the fourth rostral segment. Legs with tarsi somewhat darker than the other articles, reddish brown ( Fig. 68 F View FIGURE 68 ). Abdomen with spine of segment III rounded ( Figs. 45 F View FIGURE 45 ; 68 F View FIGURE 68 ). Intersegmental areas covered by wide solid black bands with smudged margins, reaching the lateral spots ( Fig. 68 F View FIGURE 68 ). Pseudosutures solid black with well-defined margins ( Fig. 68 F View FIGURE 68 ). Near the spiracle a circular black spot ( Fig. 68 F View FIGURE 68 ). Median longitudinal brown band complete ( Fig. 68 F View FIGURE 68 ). Trichobothria one in line with spiracle and the other laterad. Male genitalia, posterolateral angles of pygophore very developed, well projected laterally, apices internally with spots black ( Fig. 45 A–B, D View FIGURE 45 ). Superior processes of the genital cup rectangular, thick, in flattened and coarse posterior view, continuing ventrally in a crenulate high carina ( Fig. 45 B, D–E View FIGURE 45 , crenulate carina barely visible). Parameres ( Fig. 45 D–E View FIGURE 45 ) anterior lobe rounded; dorsal lobe subtriangular, with curved apex; posterior lobe subrectangular, with curved apex. Proctiger, posterior face subtriangular ( Fig. 45 D–E View FIGURE 45 ). Surface ventral with dark spot medial and laterally ( Fig. 45 C View FIGURE 45 ). Ventral rim with lateral subdistal tuft of setae ( Fig. 45 C, E View FIGURE 45 ); with expansions undeveloped and concolorous with the surrounding surface ( Fig. 45 C View FIGURE 45 ). Female genitalia. Unknown.
