Type locality.

Madagascar, Antananarivo, Ikopa River.

Material examined.

3 ♂♂, 2 ♀♀: MAK-2; 3 ♂♂, 1 ♀: MAK-62.

Distribution.

Madagascar, widespread ( Guignot 1959-1961; Bertrand and Legros 1971; Biström 1996); common in the Central Highlands.

Habitat in study area

(Fig. 2B, C View Figure 2 ). This species was collected at only two peripheral sampling sites. The first site was the one described above for H. dentatus . The second one was a canal at the edge of rice fields, with water slowly flowing, muddy bottom, water rather turbid, and without vegetation. Both sites were significantly impacted by anthropogenic disturbance.
