Taxonomic history. Morley (1913b) transferred P. basalis to Cardiochiles Nees von Esenbeck, 1819 ; van Achterberg and Desmier de Chenon (2009) subsequently to Snellenius Westwood, 1882 and synonymised S. theretrae ( Watanabe, 1937) with it. However, Long and van Achterberg (2013) removed S. theretrae from synonymy.

Current taxonomy. Snellenius basalis ( Walker, 1874) ( Braconidae : Microgastrinae : Microplitini ).

Label data. First label, ‘Type’ (round label, with green margin; printed); second label, ‘B. M. TYPE /HYM./3.c.783’ (square label; first and second lines printed and third line handwriting); third label, ‘ Japan./Coll.F. Walker./ 1913–71.’ (square label; printed); fourth label, ‘ Proterops /basalis’ (square label; handwriting); fifth and sixth labels, ‘262’ (square label; handwriting); seventh label, ‘B.M. TYPE /HYM./ Proterops /basalis/ Walker 1874 ’ (square label; first and second lines printed and third to fifth lines handwriting); eighth label, ‘Not in Gem. insect./G.N. [Gilbert Nixon] 7/2/58’ (square label; handwriting); ninth label, ‘ ♀ Snellenius / theretrae (Wat) /det. C. van Achterberg, 2004’ (square label; first and second lines handwriting and third line printed).

Condition. Rather good; right antenna broken at 14th flagellomere, left antenna at 13th flagellomere; right fore tarsus glued to card; left fore leg missing after trochanter.
