Taiwan voucher material: No specimen examined in this study.
Remarks: Infrequently landed by bottom trawl and longline fisheries in Taiwanese waters. Hemigaleus pingi Evermann & Shaw, 1927 described from Wenchow in China is a junior synonym of this species. Commonly exhibited in public aquaria in China and Japan. No specimen examined in the present study, but these were infrequently seen at the Keelung fish market in April-May 1988 ( DAE, pers. obs.).
Conservation status: Least Concern.
