Listropsoralges vossi sp. n.
( Figs. 24B View FIGURE 24 , 28 View FIGURE 28 , 29 View FIGURE 29 )
Description. MALE (holotype). Body 155 long and 120 wide. Gnathosoma . Ventral retrorse spurs of subcapitulum with 2 apices. Dorsum. Dorsal shields ornamented by regularly spaced small unsclerotized lacunae. Propodonotal shield 55 long. Setae si more than 14 times shorter than se. Hysteronotal shield 82 long. Setal alveoli c1 absent, setae cp very long, 6 times longer than c2, setae f2 slightly thickened. Setae e1 represented by short setae. Posterior margin of hysteronotal shield without concavation. Venter. Retrorse spur of coxal fields III weakly developed. Fleshly-like projections bearing setae h2 and h3 present. Diameter of adanal suckers about 8. Opisthosomal lobes not developed. Legs. Legs III about 85 long. Legs IV about 35 long. Lengths of setae: si 4, se 60, c2, c3, d2, e1, e2, h1, ps2, 3a, 4a, 4b, and g —all about 4–6, cp 43, f2 24, h2 105, h3 55, ps1 40, 1a and ps2 9, ω 1 I and ω 1 II about 22, ω 3 I 16, φI and II about 40, φIII 14, φIV 4, σ 1 I 19, σII 6, and σIII 7.
FEMALE. Unknown.
MALE TRITONYMPH (1 paratype). Idiosoma 150 long and 115 wide. Gnathosoma . Ventral retrorse spurs of subcapitulum with 2 apices. Dorsum. Dorsal shields fused and homogenously ornamented. Setae se 12 long, about 1.7 times longer than si. Setae d2 and e2 located on hysteronotal shield. Legs. Pretarsi III absent. Small fold near leg IV absent.
Type material examined. Male holotype and 1 tritonymph ( IRSNB) from Monodelphis domestica ( BMNH #3.10.1.128), BRAZIL: Pernambuco State, other data unknown .
Holotype deposition. Holotype is deposited in IRSNB .
Etymology. This new species is dedicated to the recognized expert in the systematics and phylogeny of the Neotropical mammals, Dr. Robert S. Voss (AMNH).
Differential diagnosis. Males of this species are close to those of Listropsoralges monodelphis . In both these species, dorsal shields are ornamented, setae se are whip-like, the opisthosomal lobes are absent and setae h2 and h3 are situated on the distinct fleshly-like projections. The new species differs by the following features. In Listropsoralges vossi sp. n., the body length is 155, the hysteronotal shield is covered by the monotonous ornamentation, setae cp are 6 times longer than c2. In Listropsoralges monodelphis , the body length is 185, the hysteronotal shield is covered by the heterogeneous ornamentation, setae cp are 1.2 times longer than c2.
Host range and distribution. This species is known only from the type host Monodelphis domestica from Brazil (Pernambuco) (present paper) .
